Alexandra Kanarski, a senior at East Chapel Hill High School, and Maryanna Holmes Parker, a sophomore at Orange High School, were honored as participants from Orange County in the Fourth District Congressional High School Arts Competition, sponsored annually by the U.S. House of Representatives and implemented locally through Fourth District U.S. Congressman David Price’s office.
Each spring, members of the U.S. House of Representatives join together to recognize the creative spirit of American high school students in a nationwide art competition. The Congressional High School Arts Competition features paintings, drawings, prints, collage, mixed media, computer-generated art and photography. Each representative brings a winning entry back to Washington, D.C. to be displayed in the corridor of the U.S. Capital. Launched in 1982, this nationwide event has produced thousands of local competitions, yielding more than 500,000 high school winners.
Alexandra is the daughter of Natalia Kanarski of Chapel Hill. Maryanna is the daughter of Mary and Wayne Parker of Rougemont.
