Trail to open June 5

Posted on May 13, 2010 by Staff

A 4.7-mile section of the American Tobacco Trail will open in Chatham County on June 5.

The ATT is a 22-mile “rails-to-trails” recreation and commuter project extending from Durham near the Durham Bulls Athletic Park to the New Hill community in western Wake County. The Chatham County section of the trail – from just south of the Durham line to New Hope Church Road – is a combination of asphalt and compacted screening.

Parking for the ATT is available at the trailhead on White Oak Church Road, just over the Chatham County line in Wake County, and in a small gravel lot at the end of Pittard Sears Road. Parking along O’Kelly Chapel Road will be hazardous until improvements are made to accommodate parking.
