The Orange County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing today on a possible referendum on a one-quarter-cent sales-tax hike. The hearing will be held during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting at the Department of Social Services Office, 113 Mayo St. in Hillsborough. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
The public is asked to comment on a potential Nov. 2 referendum on an additional sales tax in Orange County. In 2007, the General Assembly granted county boards of commissioners the authority to levy, subject to voter approval, an additional one-quarter-cent county sales and use tax.
The additional tax would generate approximately $2.3 million for Orange County on an annual basis. If approved by voters, the tax would take effect on April 1, 2011.
