The Chapel Hill Museum board of directors announced this week that the 14-year-old museum will close. In an announcement sent last Thursday, board chair Don Boulton said additional funding offered by the town as part of budget discussions fell short of what it would take to keep the museum open. Boulton said the hope was that the town would eventually take over the museum, which is located in the town-owned building on East Franklin Street that used to house the Chapel Hill Public Library. Museum supporters have cited the cost of upkeep and utilities for the building as a major factor in its financial woes.
