About 90 citizens and members of the advocacy group Justice United met with County Manager Frank Clifton and County Commissioner Steve Yuhasz at the Orange County Library on Monday night to discuss the impact of a recent 300 percent rate hike for sewer services in Efland.
Organizers with Justice United said the increase, scheduled to be spread out over the next four years, hits low-income residents of Efland especially hard.
Homeowners and advocates told county officials that alternatives to the increase, such as integration into the system of nearby Mebane, should be on the table when the commissioners review the hike.
