FROM THE EDITOR: Parched

Posted on July 9, 2010July 14, 2010 by Staff

Quite warm, humid and rainless weather has returned, and with it a reminder of the importance of water this time of year. As you may have recently read in our newspaper, conservation and infrastructure demands have led the Orange Water and Sewer Authority to enact another rate increase.

While in our affluent society, water seems for most of us a fairly inexpensive commodity, there are many families who are struggling to pay their bills.

Fortunately, OWASA makes it extremely easy to help our fellow citizens. By just checking a box on your next water bill or checking in with the OWASA at 537-4343, you can help. By agreeing to let the utility round your bill up to the nearest dollar, you can make a monthly contribution to the Taste of Hope program. The funds go to the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service to help low-income families meet their water bills. Only about 1,000 of OWSA’s 19,000 customers participate in the program.

You can learn more at owasa.org/right/TasteOfHope.aspx

We urge our readers to sign up for the Taste of Hope program and let their generosity flow.
