A team of East Chapel Hill High School students was one of 12 teams from around the world invited to participate in the International Space Settlement Design Competition, held July 31-Aug. 2 at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
Team members are Alexis Cotton, Marc Jutras, Alexander Kampov-Polevoi, Lori Kim and Birger Hennings, with coach Brad Miller, an ECHHS physics teacher, and assistant coach Adam Gray, a UNC student. Hennings, team captain, was named Best Male Presenter at the competition.
Teams were asked to design a space settlement for more than 24,000 inhabitants in the Valles Marineris region of Mars.
