On Aug. 27, Steve Miller, Syd Alexander, Fred Black, Jennifer Boger and Ed Norfleet took the pleasure of their responsibility as board members of the nonprofit Strowd Roses Inc. to a new level, as they enjoyed the renovations groundbreaking ceremony at the Charles House Eldercare Home.
The Charles House Association purchased the house last year, and with a three-year loan provided by Strowd Roses, renovations will provide an optimal residence for six seniors to live there with 24-hour care starting next January.
The house had formerly been the home of Jack and Ann Klein, who lived there from 1986 until 2006. Their daughter Kathy Klein spoke on behalf of the several generations of the family attending the ceremony.
“We 20 family members know that we will carry with us wherever we are – in other towns, in other states, in other countries, in this world or the next one – memories made in this house. We also believe that … we left a part of our spirit here. And to all those who will come here, we’re glad that you will make this house a home again. We’re proud that Charles House has chosen 303 Yorktown Drive as their address.â€
“This day represents the embrace of a neighborhood to protect and care for the elderly,†Black said. “We are creating something that can be a model for other neighborhoods across our state and the nation.â€
