The U.S. Department of Education announced last week that North Carolina will receive $400 million in Race to the Top funds, which will be divided equally between the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and the state’s 115 local school districts.
Funding will be provided over the next four years.
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education adopted a memorandum of understanding to participate in the Race to the Top program in December. The district has 90 days from late September to submit a plan to the Department of Public Instruction to show how the district will use the funds to align with the program’s strategic goals.
