Eight Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools school nurses and three district high school students traveled to Guatemala over the summer to visit various health care organizations.
The group visited hospitals, clinics, orphanages and non-governmental organizations. Participants lived with families during their stay to enhance their appreciation and knowledge of Latin culture and studied Spanish daily.
Group members were nurses Rita Crain, Christine Shooter, Jean McDonald, Beth Murphy, Carol Griff, Edwina Zagami, Irene Slydel and Debbie Lamay; and students Wesley Cochran, Austin Slydel and Alexandra Slydel.
