The Pines Community Center is collecting donations for a mother and her two children whose home was devastated by a fire on Sunday.
The home of Sherlisa Gear, 7-year-old Anyllah and 5-week-old Jakai was gutted by a fire that started in the kitchen when power was restored after an outage. The family was staying with relatives at the time of the fire because of the power outage on the block, and no one was hurt.
The house is uninhabitable, and the family needs a Section-8 approved home in the $650/month range, financial donations and help with salvage and moving. To volunteer or donate, contact PCC board president Stephanie Perry at 358-7425. Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 4652, Chapel Hill, NC, 27515. Unless otherwise designated, all cash donations made to PCC in September will help the Gear family.
