Ephesus teacher named math finalist

Penny Shockley, gifted-education specialist at Ephesus Elementary School, was named one of three North Carolina finalists for the 2010 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Program.

Shockley is a finalist in the mathematics category and will be judged at the national level by a committee at the National Science Foundation. She will attend a reception to honor state-level finalists on Nov. 4.

Shockley previously served as Ephesus Elementary’s lead math teacher and directed the school’s math professional-developmental efforts.
