Election season starts this Friday

Posted on September 16, 2010September 16, 2010 by Staff

The fall election season gets rolling Friday, when voters will be able to begin to request absentee mail ballots.

Registered voters wishing to be sent the mail ballots must send their requests in writing to the Orange County Board of Elections office, PO Box 220, Hillsborough, NC 27278. The request must include:

• voter’s name as registered;
• voter’s date of birth;
• voter’s Orange County address;
• address where the ballot is to be mailed, if different from the Orange County address;
• voter’s telephone number (an email address is also very helpful);
• voter’s signature; and
• if the request is being submitted by a near-relative on the voter’s behalf, the near-relative must state his/her name, address and relationship to the voter. A power-of-attorney does not qualify as someone who may request ballots on a voter’s behalf.

The last day to submit ballots by mail is Oct. 26.

One-stop absentee voting begins Oct. 14 at the board of elections office in Hillsborough and on Oct. 18 at Morehead Planetarium on the UNC campus and the Seymour Center on Homestead Road.

County election officials will close the registration books on Oct. 8 for voting on Election Day, Nov. 2.

People wishing to register and vote at the one-stop-voting sites may do so through Oct. 30 at the Seymour Center and board of election offices and through Oct. 29 at the planetarium.

Visit the board of elections web site at www.co.orange.nc.us/elect/ or call 245-2350 for more information.
