FOOTBALL
Carrboro 44 – East Chapel Hill 28

Carrboro improved to 4-0 with a victory on the road over district rival East Chapel Hill (1-3) on Friday, continuing the school’s best-ever football start. In a departure from form, the Jaguars manhandled the Wildcats, moving the ball using their running game rather than the vaunted arm of quarterback Derek Bryant. Carrboro backs Torrel Farrar and Douglas Parish combined for 343 yards on the ground. In sharp contrast, East relied almost exclusively on the passing attack, as quarterback Drew Davis set a school record for passing attempts with 46, of which he completed 27.

These strategies brought the score to 14 apiece at the end of the first quarter. After that, the Jags would score 24 unanswered points by the fourth and hold on for the win, despite two more Wildcat passing TDs, to Alex Moore and Tyler Klimko, in the final minutes.

East Chapel Hill and Chapel Hill square off tonight (Thursday) rather than Friday, in observance of Yom Kippur. Carrboro has the week off, but will get their shot at the Tigers on Sept. 24.

Chapel Hill 28 – Pittsboro Northwood 24

Chapel Hill began to breathe easier after Friday night’s win over Pittsboro Northwood.

After starting off the season with a pair of losses, the Tigers (2-2) have seemingly found their form, clawing their way back to a .500 record. The game ended with each side having scored four touchdowns apiece. The Chargers (1-3), however, failed to convert a single point after touchdown, handing the win to the Tigers. This was despite a potent Charger ground offense that nearly snatched victory from Chapel Hill’s grasp in the final minutes, if not for a Northwood fumble with 1:10 remaining.

Chapel Hill quarterback TJ Johnson showed poise, finishing with 173 passing yards and a rushing touchdown. R.J. Quick was on the receiving end of most of that total, racking up 125 yards on five completions.
