“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion†is from the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment. That includes the right not to follow any religion.
As a non-Christian, I found it ridiculous recently that a Christian would feel sorry for me when I told him I did not believe in Christ as my savior. I wanted to tell him that I felt sorry for him feeling sorry for me. I want to feel sorry for Christians believing in something that I do not think is real and will never believe is real. But I accept their beliefs and am requesting that they accept mine.
I am writing this letter to ask Christians to stop the intolerance against those of us who are not believers in their particular form of religion, to allow us to practice our own law-abiding form of non-Christian spirituality/religion. Most non-Christians in this country do not persecute people for wearing particular clothing. We do not use religion as an excuse to commit illegal acts, as an excuse to go to war, practice polygamy or burn books, etc., etc., etc. I do not use religion as an excuse, period.
To those Christians who feel the compulsion to preach to us, please don’t. Please stop the intolerance against all of us, whether we are Islamic, Jewish or whether we just do not believe in Christ. There is a lot of moral standing amongst us.
