The Orange County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday said that because of the lack of conservation trust funds, the county should focus on the maintenance and accessibility of properties it already owns rather than the acquisition of properties.
The county’s Lands Legacy Program, adopted by the board 10 years ago, seeks to protect the county’s most critical natural and cultural resources through conservation or acquisition. In a work session, the board reviewed the program’s two-year action plan, which recommends a number of priority projects for maintenance, including a park in Bingham Township, the Seven-Mile Creek Preserve near Hillsborough and others.
Staff will return to the board at a future meeting for further review of the plan.
