The Chapel Hill Town Council was scheduled to meet Wednesday evening after The Citizen’s press deadline.
At the meeting at Town Hall, the council was expected to receive an update on the proposed neighborhood conservation district for Glen Lennox. A conservation district plan proposal is scheduled to be ready for the town planning board by next June.
Other items on Wednesday night’s agenda included:
• an update on the town’s Voter-Owned Election Program and possible adjustments to the program prior to its use in the 2011 municipal elections;
• a report from Friends of Bolin Creek on efforts by its Bolin Creek Conservation Study Group on remediation efforts and potential costs to restore the creek; and
• consideration of a $560,000 grant through the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Surface Transportation Program for phase 2 of the Morgan Creek Trail project. Phase 1 of the trail, which is currently under construction, begins just north of the Southbridge neighborhood and ends at Merritt Pasture. It includes about 4,600 linear feet of trail, primarily on the north side of Morgan Creek.
Phase 2 would connect the existing Fan Branch Trail with the section of the Morgan Creek Trail that is now under construction. The phase 2 project would involve the construction of about 1,200 linear feet of trails with two bridges and an underpass of Culbreth Road.
Also on Wednesday night, the council was expected to hear from suspended Chapel Hill Public Works Department employee Kerry Bigelow during its public comments session. Bigelow and co-worker Clyde Clark say they were targeted for having filed grievances in the past alleging racial bias in job placements and promotions. According to their attorney, the men planned to hold a press conference prior to the council meeting.
