The Orange County Board of Commissioners voted on Tuesday to approve the installation of an artificial-turf soccer field at Cedar Falls Park.
The project will be funded using money from the Soccer Superfund, created by the Parks and Open Space Bond approved by voters in 2001. Funds were initially appropriated for the first phase of Twin Creeks Park north of Carrboro, but county officials later determined that the funding was insufficient for the planned park.
Commissioners re-appropriated the funds to reconfigure an existing damaged youth baseball field at Cedar Falls Park, on Weaver Dairy Road across from East Chapel Hill High School. The funding will allow for the installation of an artificial-turf field in place of the existing field.
