Students from East Chapel Hill High School and Carrboro High School are among the winners of this year’s United Nations Contest for High School Students. The contest is designed to encourage students to learn more about the U.N. by creating original projects that pertain to the U.N.’s mission.
The winners and their awards are:
• David McDonogh, junior, East Chapel Hill High: $750 1st place award for “Timor East and West”;
• Kathy Dai, freshman, East Chapel Hill High: $500 2nd place award for “U.N. Leadership Roles in Humanitarian Aid”;
• Joe Baker, Parker Edwards, and Adam Glasser, seniors, Carrboro High School: $250 3rd place award for “U.N. Aid for Indonesia”;
• Maryam Ali, freshman, East Chapel Hill High: honorable mention for “Violence Against Women”;
• Rachel Hainline, senior, East Chapel Hill High: honorable mention for “Poverty Reduction”; and
• Yuyi Li, sophomore, East Chapel Hill High: honorable mention for “Blood Diamonds”.
