Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools was recognized for its low dropout and short-term suspension rates in the Consolidated Report for 2009-10, presented to the State Board of Education last week.
The report is published annually and combines data in the areas of short-term suspensions, long-term suspensions and expulsions, crime rates for reportable offenses and dropout rates. CHCCS was among the top 10 districts in two of the three categories for which there are rankings.
The district’s dropout rate was 0.95 percent, or 35 dropouts, down from 52 dropouts in 2008-09. North Carolina also posted a record-low dropout rate. The district’s short-term suspension rate was 5.3 per 100 students. Statewide, short-term suspensions decreased 8.2 percent.
The CHCCS crime rate decreased for 2009-10 with about 32 reportable offenses, compared with 60 for 2008-09. Statewide, the crime rate increased to 15.89 per 1,000 students from 15.7 per 1,000 in the previous year.
