Affordable Care Act anniversary

Posted on March 30, 2011 by Staff

The Affordable Care Act celebrated its one-year anniversary last Wednesday with a gathering at Piedmont Health Services.

“This is an occasion worth marking,” said Rep. David Price, who calls the act “the most significant reform in history to our nation’s health care system.”

Nearly 37,000 residents gained health insurance eligibility through the act. The provision allows parents to keep children up to age 26 without job-based coverage on their insurance plans. It is also estimated that 539,000 kids are protected by the provision, banning insurance companies from denying coverage to children because of a pre-existing conditions.
