Hospital ground broken

Posted on April 27, 2011April 27, 2011 by Staff

On April 20, UNC Hospitals hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new hospital and physicians’ office building in Hillsborough.

Expected to be complete by 2015, the facilities will include 50 acute-care beds, an 18-bed intensive care unit, six operating rooms, two procedure rooms, an emergency department and outpatient medical and surgical specialty services, including urgent care, imaging and oncology.

The campus is located on Waterstone Drive near I-40/I-85 Exit 261, across the street from Durham Technical Community College’s Orange County campus.

Among those on hand for the groundbreaking were U.S. Rep. David Price, UNC Health Care System CEO and Dean of the UNC School of Medicine William L. Roper and Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens.

The project is estimated to cost more than $200 million. The hospital and office building will employ approximately 500 people.
