A Centennial Carrboro Day

Posted on April 28, 2011April 28, 2011 by Staff

Although Carrboro Day always falls on the first Sunday in May, this Sunday’s celebration is not your average Carrboro Day.

That’s because it’s our birthday – the town’s 100th. And in addition to the usual festivities and some special centennial goings-on, The ArtsCenter’s Street Fair will be held simultaneously.
Attendees can learn a little about Carrboro’s 100-year history from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room.

Outside on the Town Commons, the street fair will showcase The ArtsCenter’s wide range of programs, featuring caricature drawing, hands-on pottery-making for children, improv acts, musical performances and more.

The Carrboro Community Garden Club’s Plant Exchange, from 1 to 5 p.m., will offer celebrants the opportunity to bring a plant from their yards or homes and exchange it for a club member’s plant. Club members will be available to share gardening advice, identify plants and provide information on exotic invasive species.

The celebration also will feature a library book and bake sale, a Boy Scout hot dog sale and Carrboro Police Department displays from 1 to 5 p.m. OWASA will provide conservation information, also from 1 to 5 p.m.

Live music on the Town Commons, with performances by The Village Band, the Triangle Jazz Band, Club Boheme and Cool John Ferguson, will run from 1 to 5 p.m. The music continues at 6 p.m. at the Carrboro Century Center with a performance by the Nomads.

Continuing with town tradition, poetry readings will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Town Hall Board Room.

In case of rain, outdoor activities will be moved to the Carrboro Century Center. For more information, visit carrboroday.com

Happy Centennial Carrboro! The Paris of the Piedmont! This small city in North Carolina next to Chapel Hill has less than 17,000 habitants, but is home to 2 French Wine Importers! I had my office in beautiful Carrboro for over 10 years.
