Letter: Library decision ill-advised

Posted on April 28, 2011 by Staff

The town’s decision to place the library on the Hillsborough Road site is ill-advised for two reasons. It will cause irreparable harm to the distinctive character of the surrounding residential neighborhood. Second, since there is no room for expansion, the town will in a few years be forced to look again for another site.

There is, however, a suitable site for the library that is presently up for grabs: the corner of North Greensboro and Weaver streets. Instead, in spite of strong opposition, the town will probably succumb to the commercial imperatives that call for a CVS on that corner.

It is a sad day for Carrboro when the town makes two decisions that are so strongly opposed, with good reason, by so many of its citizens.

Good one Frank! Your point exposes the myth that Carrboro is interested in building a green, walkable, community.
