Chatham County Manager Charlie Horne presented a proposed budget for fiscal year 2011-12 to the board of commissioners on Monday. The budget of $82,883,972 is 4 percent lower than this year’s and would maintain the tax rate at the current level of 62.19 cents.
The budget proposes substantial cuts while ensuring the continuation of core functions of county government, Horne said. County funding of K-12 schools would increase 2 percent, while the non-school operating budget would drop 8 percent with budgeting by departments and decreased human-services costs.Â
