Singin’ in the Rain, 2011

A Thousand Words
By Jock Lauterer

Well, we don’t know if our rain dancer is actually singing, but she sure is striking a Gene Kelly pose. J. Nicholas “Nick” Kepple, one of my intrepid student photographers, captured this free spirit during the Friday, May 27 frogstrangler that deluged the West Franklin-Kenan-Mallette intersections with rushing rainwater. Nick says she told him she is a resident of the neighborhood and that her name is “Sara Bloo,” adding, “This is the greatest day of my life!” – proving that some folks have a knack for making a good thing out of what many stalled-out motorists found to be a dreadful situation. And, no, the local constabulary didn’t seem to mind Sara’s celebration.
