A Thousand Words
By Jock Lauterer
Here of late, the papers have been full of photographs from college and high school commencement exercises – and quite rightly so. But there are many other smaller and more humble graduations that are rites of passage nonetheless. Case in point: This image depicts Chapel Hill fifth-grader Ahsuwa Haith, 11, celebrating his graduation from Glenwood Elementary School with his younger brother, Adeus, and his mother, Consuelo, last Thursday, June 9. This photograph was taken by one of my summer school photo students, Ryan Davis, a rising senior journalism major from Elon, who is Ahsuwa’s “Big Buddy.†Ahsuwa will be entering the sixth grade this fall at Culbreth Middle School. Our congratulations to Ahsuwa and all other grads.
