New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is scheduled to speak at UNC’s spring commencement on May 13, 2012, UNC officials announced Monday.
Bloomberg, who was first elected mayor of New York City in 2001, will also receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from UNC.
Chancellor Holden Thorp said he was honored Bloomberg accepted the invitation, and believes that because of his innovative careers in philanthropy, public service and business, many Carolina students will be inspired by his speech.
Bloomberg was chosen by Thorp along with the university’s Commencement Speaker Selection Committee, which is made up of an equal number of students and faculty.
