Chapel Hill asks residents to bring in trashcans

Posted on September 28, 2011 by Staff

On Monday, the Town of Chapel Hill launched a pilot program to encourage residents to bring in their roll-cart trashcans from the road after trash pickup. According to the town, leaving trash containers on the curb has a negative impact on the look and feel of the neighborhood and can inhibit traffic flow.
Town regulations state that on trash collection days, garbage is to be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. and containers should be removed by 7 p.m. on the same day.
The program is focusing on the Northside and Pine Knolls neighborhoods, and will leave a notice on violators’ trash containers as well as a citation on the door. Failure to pay the citation in 30 days will result in up to a $25-per-day fine.
Questions about the program should be directed to André Jones at the Chapel Hill Public Works Department at 969-5100.
