The Chatham County Board of Commissioners awarded a bid of nearly $4.41 million to the H.M. Kern Corporation on Oct. 3 to rebuild the historic Chatham County Courthouse.
Commissioners also approved the proposed installation of audio-visual equipment and a sound system so that upon completion the courthouse can be used effectively for commissioner meetings.
The Chatham County Courthouse was severely damaged in a fire on March 25, 2010. Reconstruction is expected to start in the next few weeks and is projected for completion in fall 2012.
