Fifty-two students in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools were named commended students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 students nationwide have been commended for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2012 competition for National Merit Scholarships, commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT.

Commended students from Chapel Hill High School include: Kelly Archer, Matthew Arena, Benjamin Babcock, Emily Bulik-Sullivan, Logan Davis, Trevor Gasdaska, Maya Handa, Conor Hendershot, Elizabeth Howe, Melissa Hu, Madeline Kameny, William Knapp, Audrey Larson, Hunyoung Lee, Roberts Nelson, Megan Phelan, Priyanka Reddy, Hannah Reynolds, Adylan Rigdon, Matthieu Sieredzki, Ashish Valentine and Dylan Wignall.
