Hazel Gibbs retires after 30 years

Hazel Gibbs, executive director of human resources for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, retired on Sept. 30 after 30 years of service to the district.
Gibbs joined the district in 1981 as a guidance counselor and interim principal at Frank Porter Graham Elementary School. She then became the assistant principal of Carrboro Elementary School.
Gibbs became the executive director of human resources in 1987, and since then has overseen the development and administration of many notable programs, including the mentor teacher program and the annual recognition reception.
