Please join me in voting for Kris Castellano for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education this November.
Kris has been actively involved in the CHCCS district for more than a decade. Her involvement began as a classroom volunteer when her children were in elementary school. Witnessing the eager students that surrounded her in the class, she completed Coach Write and Reading Partners training and personally volunteered in the schools to provide additional resources to work toward closing the achievement gap.Â
Kris increased her level of involvement through election to three different school improvement teams (SIT) in the district over the past 8 years. I have had the privilege to serve on two of those SITs along with Kris. Working together, Kris and I have not always been on the same side of every issue – but her leadership, patience in maintaining an open dialogue and desire to achieve consensus has routinely led to positive results for all stakeholders.Â
While co-authoring school improvement plans for elementary and middle schools and serving on a CHCCS District Committee for Dual Language Programming have continued to deepen her understanding of district policies and procedures, it is her commitment to thoughtful communication that prepares her best for the challenges facing the Board of Education members.Â
For the past decade, Kris has been an active volunteer for our schools. She has exhibited tireless effort in working to ensure that all children receive the support they need to reach their full potential. She has worked with administration and staff to deliver strategies that better develop our students to be critical thinkers and engaged community members. She has encouraged those in the community with concerns to speak and has also stressed the importance of listening. She would be a tremendous asset to our board of education.
