The trial of Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr., who is accused of murdering former UNC student body president Eve Carson in 2008, is set to begin on Nov. 28.
Lovette has been charged with first-degree murder and if convicted could face life in prison without parole. He is not eligible for the death penalty because he was 17 at the time of the murder. Demario James Atwater, Lovette’s accomplice, was sentenced to two counts of life in prison after he plead guilty on Sept. 23, 2010, in federal court.
Lovette and Atwater are accused of kidnapping Carson from her home, forcing her to withdraw $1,400 from her bank account and then shooting her five times.
The trial will be held at the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough.
