Info on deer hunting with dogs

Posted on November 3, 2011 by Staff

Orange County Animal Services has put together an informational brochure about the legal requirements and responsibilities of deer hunting with dogs.
Deer hunting with dogs is lawful in northern Orange County, specifically the portion of the county north of I-85. Written permission must be obtained to hunt on someone else’s private property.
The brochure’s main purpose is to inform hunters, residents and landowners of their rights and responsibilities regarding deer hunting in an effort to minimize community conflicts, and to ensure public health and safety during the upcoming gun season.
For more information, visit www.co.orange.nc.us/AnimalServices/DeerDogHunting.asp. A sample written permission form is available from the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission at ncwildlife.org/Hunting/WheretoHunt/PrivateLands.aspx.
