LETTER: Vote Johnson

Posted on November 3, 2011 by Staff

Recently, I attended a “Meet and Greet” for Michelle Johnson, a Carrboro resident running for the Carrboro Board of Aldermen. Though Michelle is a very talented, energetic and active member of our community, that is only one small part of why I fully support her candidacy. Michelle is a clinical social worker by training and has served in this capacity at many community organizations including the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, UNC and East Chapel Hill High School. She is also the face of our community as a yoga instructor at Carrboro Yoga Company and an artist out of her in-home pottery studio. Her passion for social justice, her tenacious work ethic and her strong belief that “we can be the change we wish to see in the world” add credibility to why she is so well-suited for this role.
Local government is a place where we can really see and feel the effect of change. Electing someone who is open and willing to listen to her constituents and act on their behalf is our responsibility. With Michelle, we have a candidate who is passionate about the many issues that face our community including affordable housing, the health and safety of our citizens, protection of our environment, parking/transportation and a thriving local economy. She also cares deeply about the issues that make Carrboro such a unique treasure: its support of locally owned shops and the ability to walk and bike safely in our community.
Michelle’s leadership and communication skills, human service work, political activism and her vision and enthusiasm to see ideas through to implementation make her a candidate that can and will make a difference in our community! Make your vote count on Nov. 8; vote Michelle Johnson for Carrboro Board of Aldermen!
