PTA Thrift Shop gives back

Posted on November 3, 2011 by Staff

The PTA Thrift Shop gave amounts totaling $265,000 to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in September, significantly increasing its donation from last year. The funds are generated based on the PTA Thrift Shop’s net proceeds from two retail stores located in Carrboro and Chapel Hill.
In 2010, the nonprofit gave 17 district schools and Pace Academy, a Carrboro-based charter school, a total of $221,000. The PTA Thrift Shop announced plans in June to redevelop its facilities and build additional commercial space at its Carrboro location and launched a $1.7 million community fundraising campaign to support the project.
The PTA thrift shop started in 1952 as a nonprofit donating to local public schools through the Parent Teacher Association from each school.
