Ancient forests exhibit opens at garden

Posted on December 8, 2011 by Staff

The N.C. Botanical Garden’s new exhibit, Southern Appalachian Celebration, will remain on display through January 2012.
The exhibit is intended to inspire appreciation for old-growth forests of the Southern Appalachians. It features the photography of James Valentine, who has created portraits of giant trees and landscapes of the Southern Appalachians.
Visitors will be led through the exhibit by a guide who will provide descriptions of the sites where the big trees were photographed, as well as a cross-section of a large oak tree that offers a tactile experience for reading the age of the tree.
Admission to the garden is free, and it is open every day of the week aside from some closings over the winter holidays. Visit ncbg.unc.edu for details.
