Early bird tax help

Posted on December 15, 2011 by Staff

Special days of free tax preparation through VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) will be held throughout January in Orange County for eligible “early bird” clients who have received income information from all their employers.
Interested clients should call after Jan. 16 to learn about eligibility, what to bring and to make an appointment.
Clients must meet eligibility guidelines. IRS-certified volunteers are trained to prepare computerized federal and N.C. tax returns.
VITA’s regular tax season will begin Feb. 1, and service will be available Monday through Saturday by appointment or walk-in depending on the site.
The IRS, RSVP 55+, Orange County Government, Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, the Women’s Center and United Way of the Greater Triangle sponsor VITA.
More information will be available in January at local libraries and online at orangecountync.gov/aging/VITA.asp.
