At about 3 pm on Saturday, the old bank building and real estate office on the site of the proposed new CVS store at 201 N. Greensboro St. in Carrboro was occupied by a group identifying itself with the Occupy Everything movement.
The occupation was preceded by a march down West Weaver Street, accompanied by drums and chants of “Whose street? Our street.”
The doors to the empty building were standing open, but among several of the occupiers questioned, none would or could say how entry to the building was gained.
A flyer passed out by the group states that “this is not a temporary protest, but a permanent occupation intended to establish a social center in the heart of Carrboro, instead of the CVS that would have been here.”
The flyer goes on to say that “we are here to show that we are not intimidated by armed police or their bureaucratic defenders.”
