Vincent Gonzalez, who was arrested and charged with impeding traffic during the Carrboro Commune guerrilla gardening event on March 17, was acquitted on Tuesday.
Gonzalez pled not guilty to the charges and after only being on trial for about an hour, Judge Lunsford Long determined that because his actions were not an extreme violation of the law, it wasn’t necessary to convict him.
Gonzalez was arrested by the Carrboro Police Department while he was drawing pictures and slogans in the street with chalk. The police department has received some criticism from members of the Carrboro Commune and some elected officials for his arrest.
