Rallying against the Amendment

Posted on May 3, 2012May 2, 2012 by Staff

Members of the Carrboro Board of Aldermen, Chapel Hill Town Council, Hillsborough Town Board, the Orange County Board of Commissioners and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education came together on Saturday to cast their ballots against Amendment One and unite in their opposition to the measure, which would add an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage between a man and a woman as the only domestic legal union recognized by the state.

The Carrboro Board of Aldermen, Chapel Hill Town Council and Orange County Board of Commissioners have all passed resolutions opposing Amendment One. “If everyone goes out and does their part we can defeat this amendment and ensure we can maintain protections and benefits for our employees,” said board of aldermen member Lydia Lavelle, who organized the event.
