Family Dollar decision again postponed

Posted on May 24, 2012 by Staff

CARRBORO – Following several hours of public comment against a Family Dollar store proposed for the intersection of Alabama Avenue and Jones Ferry Road, the Carrboro Board of Adjustment on Wednesday again postponed a decision on the project.

The board continued the public hearing until June 6, when they will begin deliberations on the project, an 8,100-square-foot store accompanied by 26 parking spaces on one acre. The hearing had been continued from May 16, when the applicant, Raleigh-based Stronach Properties, presented his case for several hours, leaving little time for public comment.

On Wednesday, more than 30 residents spoke against the proposed project, saying the development would bring increased traffic and unsafe conditions to their neighborhood while decreasing values of surrounding properties.

The meeting will continue at 7:30 p.m. on June 6 at Carrboro Town Hall.
