Flicka Bateman, principal of the UNC Hospital School, will retire on June 30.
A reception was held on May 30, where school, hospital and district staff along with community members honored Bateman.
The UNC Hospital School, founded in 1965, is part of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district and serves more than 2,000 patients annually. The school provides year-round educational services to children and adolescents in the hospital so they can continue their studies while in a medical setting.
