Bikes for brains

Posted on June 21, 2012 by Staff

Carrboro resident Courtney Webster is training for an 1,853.5-mile bicycle adventure to raise money for the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke Hospital.

Four and a half years ago, Webster’s father passed away after a two-year battle with brain cancer. She’s created Bikes for Brains, a website dedicated to raising money for the center before and during the ride.

Webster will depart from Vancouver on June 30 with hopes of arriving in Imperial Beach, Calif., on July 31. She will be updating the website along the way with blog entries, photos, videos and other related media.

As someone who had brain surgery 15 years ago, I applaud Courtney Webster’s efforts.
