This Friday at 3 p.m., Piedmont Biofuels will open the first biodiesel plant with the ability to use enzymatic catalysis to create renewable fuel.
The company’s enzyme-based FAeSTER process allows for use of a greater number of feedstocks in addition to the virgin plant oils, animal fats and waste cooking oil that have traditionally been used in biodiesel fuel.
In addition to tours of the facility, the event will feature speakers including N.C. Sen. Kay Hagan, National Biodiesel board member Joe Jobe, Larry Shirley of the N.C. Department of Commerce, Biofuels Center of North Carolina CEO Steven Burke and a representative of Novozymes, an enzyme manufacturing company.
The event is open to the public. For more information, visit biofuels.coop
