East Main Street to close Saturday

On Aug. 25, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close East Main Street to through traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. East Main will be closed to through traffic between the intersections of Roberson and Lloyd streets to allow the Norfolk-Southern Railroad to replace the rail crossing.

While the NCDOT anticipates the road reopening by 6 p.m., if there are delays the roadway will remain closed overnight and reopen once construction is complete.

Detour signs will be posted for motorists to use alternate routes, while pedestrians and bicyclists are instructed to use the Libba Cotton Bikeway as an alternate route.

Additional railroad crossings will be closed at Estes Drive on Aug. 28, Seawell School Road on Aug. 29 and Homestead Road on Aug. 30. For more information, visit ncdot.gov/travel
