SMMT essay contest

Posted on September 13, 2012 by Staff

Students from fifth to 12th grades enrolled in public, charter, private or parochial or home school are invited to participate in the 16th annual Sallie Markham Michie Trust (SMMT) Essay Contest.

The contest was created to encourage students to investigate history and learn more about the governments of North Carolina and the United States. Students will be competing within their grade level and the winners will receive cash prizes.

To participate, students must live in Orange County or in Chatham County north of U.S. 64 and east of N.C. 87. Students may obtain essay contest packets from school counselors or teachers or by accessing the SMMT contest website at darchnc.wordpress.com. Essays must be postmarked no later than Nov. 8 and winners will be announced in December.
