The Haw River Watch Project will host a stream ecology and monitoring event on the Haw River at the Haw River State Park in Browns Summit on Sunday.
River Watch Project coordinator Cynthia Crossen will teach participants how to measure a stream’s water quality by identifying the number and type of water bugs and doing simple chemical tests.
The event is free and open to the public. Participants should bring waterproof boots or water shoes and be prepared to be in and around the river. To participate, contact Torry Nergart, Haw River State Park ranger, at (336) 342-6163 or Torry.Nergard@ncmail.net.
Participants will meet at the Summit Environmental Education Center and the event will run from 2 to 4 p.m., weather permitting. For directions, visit www.ils.unc.edu/parkproject/TheSummit. For more information, contact Crossen at 967-2500 or riverwatch@hawriver.org.
