Letter: A real improvement

Posted on June 3, 2010 by Staff

How nice that the city has built the new sidewalks on Bim Street so quickly. This noisy process took only a few weeks and included changes to the drains in the area around the Town Commons. Previously, water had run through a small seasonal creek bed that wanders through the woods behind the back fence of the Commons.

Recently, city crews opened up a large ditch and a big hole in that fence to install a big pipe that runs from Laurel Avenue to Bim Street. The work to install the entire pipe was completed the next day! This keeps water from pooling in those woods and has immediately reduced the number of mosquitoes in the area near the Town Commons playground.

All of my neighbors and I have battled mosquitoes for years, each of us emptying anything that might catch water, and feeling secretly to blame for ALL THOSE MOSQUITOES. Thank you Public Works for curing an ill I had always thought was my fault.

The Town Commons and the surrounding neighborhood will be far more pleasant on summer evenings from now on.
